April blog written by Erin McCauley
Hello All!
As we enter the springtime season, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about some books that celebrate the Earth in honor of Earth Day! These books provide a much needed perspective reset, and remind us of the importance and value of nature.
I highly recommend Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. The author’s reverence towards nature and her Native American heritage is inspiring! (Available on Libby)
The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate: Discoveries from a Secret World by Peter Wohlleben, is another title that will leave you with a feeling of awe and a new understanding of the interconnectedness of life on Earth. It is also available as a film. (Available on Libby)
It’s no surprise that the following books are New York Times Bestsellers!
- Entangled life How fungi make our worlds, change our minds & shape our futures by Merlin Sheldrake
- The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers a New Understanding of Life on Earth by Zoë Schlanger
Be sure to check out our Seed Library, open to Oceanside Library cardholders. It’s an easy and fun way to get back to nature.
Did you know that Oceanide has its own Marine Nature Study Area? It is a 52-acre preserve in Oceanside devoted to environmental education and natural history. It’s absolutely beautiful and right in Oceanside’s backyard. If you haven’t been, it’s worth the trip!
