The Library offers numerous opportunities for teens in Grades 6-12 to earn Community Service Credit such as: reading to young children, assisting adults with their computer or smart device questions, receiving donations at a Food Bank table, and more.  Here are the options currently available (space is limited):

You may register online, via phone, or in-person at the Information Desk.  Limit of two Community Service Opportunities per child.

Lego Clubs (Grades 9-12)
Tuesday, December 11 // 6-8pm

Teens will help young builders join the LEGO fun!

Keva (Grades 9-12)
Thursday, December 13 // 4-6pm
// Registration Required
Teens will help young builders with Keva planks.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION!!
You may register online, via phone, or in-person.  Payment is due within 3 days of registering.  Pay at the Information Desk in person.  We accept cash (exact change if possible please!) or check made payable to Oceanside Library (unless otherwise noted).  Fees are non-refundable.  Participants in the same class require separate checks.

Chess Club (Grades 4 – High School)
Wednesdays // 4:30pm

Open chess program.  No prior knowledge of the game required.  Snacks will be provided.  Please call the Information Desk: 516-766-2360, option 4 for the most up to date information on club dates.

Manga Night (Grades 6-12)
Wednesdays, December 12, 26 // 7-8pm

Discuss your favorite Manga and Anime, share news about the latest books, watch films, and draw your favorite characters. Refreshments will be served!

Tween Scene: Glow Jar
(Grades 4-8)
Thursday, December 13 // 3:45pm
// Registration Required
Using glow sticks & glitter, we will create a glow jar and everyone will go home with a glow-in-the-dark mason jar.  This is a great STEM program.

Teen Special Needs Program: Winter Desserts (Grades 4 - High School)

Create three desserts to enjoy and share!

Tween Scene: Cooking & Booking (Grades 4-8) (IN SESSION)

Let’s read Next Best Junior Chef: Lights, Camera, Cook! By Charise Mericle Harper.  Then we’ll do taste testing & challenges (like those in the food competition shows) that pair with the story!  Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk.

Tween Scene: Grilled Cheese Sandwiches & Tomato Basil Bisque Soup
(Grades 4-8)
Friday, December 28 // 1-2pm

We will make the sandwiches and soup at the library for all to enjoy!!  All sandwiches are served with potato chips and a drink.

GAME ON!!
Video games for Wii, Wii U, XBOX360, XBOX One, and Playstation 4 are located in the Young Adult Department.  Oceanside School District residents (7th grade or older) may check out up to two titles at a time for a 7 day loan period.
