The Library offers numerous opportunities for teens in Grades 6-12 to earn Community Service Credit such as: reading to young children, assisting adults with their computer or smart device questions, manning a Food Bank table, and more.  Students may sign up at the Information Desk or by calling (516) 766-2360, option 4.  Here are the options currently available (space is limited):

Food Bank Collection
Help collect food donations for Cory Cares.

Teens will help young builders join the Lego fun.

Chess Club (Grades 4-12)
Wednesdays // 4:30pm

No matter your skill level (or even if you’ve never played) come join us any Wednesday.  We’ll supply the boards, the pieces – and will help you have fun and enjoy this centuries-old game of skill and strategy!

SAT Practice Test
NEW DATE: Saturday, March 25 // 9:30am-1:30pm

Take a practice test of the New SAT exam.  Experience the changes.

Steampunk Tree Painting (WAIT LIST ONLY)
Monday, March 27 // 7-8pm

Decorative paper is layered with a cardboard tree plus watch hands, nuts, bolts, and dials creating a steampunk inspired project.

Relay For Life
Tuesday, April 4 // 7pm

Patrons and groups are urged to come to this information session about the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event scheduled for June 3rd at Oceanside High School.  All are welcome, no obligation to participate.

Study Hall (Grades 7-12)
Monday-Thursday, May 1-4 & May 8-11 // 2-6pm

Study for the AP Exams with friends.  Refreshments.

Invention Convention
Saturday, May 13 // 1-3pm

See the inventions of our Project Extra students.  It’s a great way to see the work of some of Oceanside’s top students, to learn something new, and to be inspired!  No registration required.

If you are doing research for school reports, extra credit, or simply out of personal interest, the Library provides many useful databases that you can access from home as well as in the Library.  Go to our Research Databases page and select your topic of interest, ranging from history and current events to literature, science, health, art, music, biography, and practice tests.


GAME ON!!
Video games for Wii, Wii U, XBOX360, XBOX One, and Playstation 4 are located in the Young Adult Department.  Oceanside School District residents (7th grade or older) may check out up to two titles at a time for a 7 day loan period.
