Call the Children's Room at (516) 766-2360, option 2 for program registration availability.  Note: Due to the popularity of some programs, the Library cannot guarantee that space will be available following evening registration.

REGISTRATION GUIDELINES

Residents of the Oceanside School District are given priority for our programs.  In-person registration begins at 7pm.  The Library reserves the right to limit the number of tickets given to any one person.  Fees are nonrefundable.  To secure a place in a program, patrons must pay (cash only) within three days of registering, or we will contact the next person on the waiting list.  Out-of-district patrons may begin registering on the fourth day after in-person registration.  Proof of age is required.

Playaway Launchpads
are now available for circulation to residents in the Oceanside Library district.  Children in Pre-K through Middle School will love these easy-to-use, durable tablets pre-loaded with high-quality secure learning apps and games.  Playaway Launchpads are grouped by subject area, theme, grade level, and age.  Subjects include Math, Science, English Language Arts, and more.  Please inquire about these exciting educational items in the Children's Department.  Check one out today!

Join Jason Reilly for an amazing live animal show!  Discover how animals have an important role in nature to make the world a better place.  Everyone is encouraged to pet and touch the animals, dance, and laugh.  Caregiver must attend.

 

Sailboat Regatta Painting (Grades 4-6)

Create a framed acrylic painting on glass.  Caregiver must remain in the Children’s Room.

Tower Of Cards (Grades 3-6)

Share ideas and build towers and simple card houses out of playing cards.  Caregiver must remain in the Children’s Room.

Mosaic City (Grades K-6)

Craft your own city with paint, gems, and glue over a glass picture frame.  Children in Grades K-2 must have a caregiver attend with them. 

Solar Eclipse Experience & Stars In A Jar Craft (Grades K-6)
Wednesday, August 9 // 4:30pm

Solar eclipse facts and safety tips.  Make a star in a jar craft to take home.  Caregiver must remain in the Children’s Room. 

Pre-K Craft (Ages 3-5 years)
Thursday, August 10 // 1pm

Decorate a mini tool box to take home.  Caregiver must attend. 

No Sew Tote Bag (Grades 4-6)
Monday, August 14 // 4:30pm

Make a tote bag to take home out of a recycled T-Shirt.  Caregiver must remain in the Children’s Room. 

1-2-3 Blast Off! (Ages 3-5 years)
Wednesday, August 16 // 10:30am

An hour-long interactive program of outer space activities.  Make and take home a Rocket Ship craft.  Caregiver must attend. 

Under The Sea Paint Day
Tuesday, August 22 // 4:30pm // Grades K-2

Relax and paint a step-by-step underwater scene on canvas with acrylic paints.  These are separation programs.  Parents/Caregivers must remain in the building and can visit our parent hospitality area.

Sensory Friendly Films
We are pleased to offer these movies under “Sensory Friendly” conditions, as a special opportunity for families to enjoy a film in a safe and accepting environment.  We’ll keep the lights slightly up and the sound turned slightly down.  Our policies regarding quiet and remaining in one’s seat will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is in question.  Come relax and enjoy family time without worrying if someone will complain or be disturbed by noise or movement.  A caregiver must remain in the room at all times.

The Internet is available in the Children's Room to holders of children's library cards in good standing.  Written parental consent is required.  Permission forms may be obtained at the Children's Reference Desk and will be kept on record there.  The library assumes no responsibility for Internet content, quality, accuracy, or currency.  It is important for parents to be aware that the Internet may contain material of a controversial nature.  Therefore, it is the parent's responsibility to monitor their children's selections.

TumbleBooks Library
TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.  You can access TumbleBooks from the library or from home.
